The Conscious, Waking Mind is Often the One That is Sleepwalking…
We tend to believe that our conscious mind—the one we continually return to when we wake up in the morning—is the integrated lodestone of will that guides our life’s trajectory. This illusion quickly falls away once the inner journey of hypnosis begins. What is discovered, (sometimes rapidly and sometimes over months), is that our waking identity is merely the tiny tip of an iceberg so vast, it’s truly beyond measure. Our unconscious mind is absorbing information from all 5 senses—and beyond—constantly and at such a rapid pace that if we became fully aware of the entirety of it we might lose our capacity to function in our reliably mundane ways. In this sense, the filtering mechanism of our conscious mind is indeed a gift. However it can also be a curse, if or when it loses its natural ability to listen deeply to the unconscious through attuning to dreams, intuition, instinct, and so on. In particular, as our information overload has only exponentially blown up through constant exposure to the internet, television, and social media, we are increasingly losing our innate methods for integrating with the reservoirs of wisdom held in our unconscious. Hypnosis is an ancient, tried and true method to recalibrate our connection with these expansive depths of our minds which we often don’t have reliable access to.
